Help! My hair is dry as @#$*! I have tried every moisturizing, replenishing, hydrating shampoo and conditioner out there and my hair is so rough, dry, and frizzy. It's starting to get me down. Anyone have any ideas on what I can do? Other than hack it all of which I am extremely tempted to do at this point.

Lots of good ideas here. Just another suggestion, have you ever thought about using products aimed at Afro-Caribbean hair? Our hair tends to be a bit on the dry side, so a lot of our hair care products are designed to give us a much needed moisture boost. There's lots of really good ingredients such as jojoba oil, avocado oil, castor oil, shea butter and so on. It might be worth a try.
I have to admit and I'm very embarrassed to say so but I asked this question ages ago and I'm only just coming back to it now! Oh dear. I am sorry about that. But thanks to all those who replied. I did use the olive oil deep conditioning treatment. I also got my hair cut quite short into an easy to manage style which didn't require so much heat or styling products. All of those helped and my hair is in better condition but there's still room for improvement.
I really do like a lot of the suggestions here. Quite a few of you have mentioned avocado which I have heard of using on hair but never tried myself. That's definitely worth a try.
Thank you all so much.
I've tried a mixture of avocado, yogurt and honey whenever my hair's felt a bit on the dry side. It works a treat!
I've never done so myself but I hear that caster oil is really good for dealing with dry hair. I know you have to blend it with some other oil first though like olive or coconut because it's quite a heavy oil.
There's lots of oils you could use to add moisture and shine to your hair - olive, coconut, jojoba, almond. The mashed avocado is also a good idea. I would do these treatments once a week.
Cut out heat appliances if you can, and use a hat or headscarf if you have to go out in the hot sun (If you're from the UK this probably won't be an issue!)
Warm olive oil or even coconut oil really does help damaged hair. Another friend of mine makes a hair mask with mashed avocado and honey which she leaves on for thirty minututes before washing out.
I'm in the same boat as you at the moment. I get dry, frizzy hair from time to time, especially during the summer but I think this time it's a case of lockdown hair so I'm walking around with this bale of straw on my head!
It might sound strange but I often get problem hair when I'm stressed, and whereas stress plays havoc with some people's skin, for me it's my hair. And let's face it - these last few months have been stressful. I would also look at diet if I were you, as sometimes dry hair is a sign of some kind of deficiency. I know that things like spinach, oily fish, nuts, flaxseed etc are supposed to help.
I usually avoid heat as much as I can so I don't blow dry my hair and minimize using hair straighteners. Perhaps when the salons are open you can get a good trim, get rid of those horrible dry ends, and probably get some kind of deep conditioning treatment. Ask your hairdresser for advice.
I would also use a leave-in conditioner if I'm out in the sun. And as you'll see here on Peppermint Teal, we're a fan of natural homemade skin and hair treatments. One that I always swear by is a warm olive oil hair treatment - about once a week.
Hope that helps!
