I'm on the wrong side of forty and for most of my life I've hardly ever worn make up. When I was younger I didn't care too much for it and I had pretty good skin so make up wasn't a priority. And on special occasions, like my wedding day, I had it professionally done. However the time has come where I probably do need a little more coverage but I haven't a clue where to start, what products i need...
Help!
Hello again ladies.
Well once again, I'm late in responding. But a massive thank you to everyone who replied with some very good ideas. You'd have thought that when we were in lockdown, which is when I created this forum post, I'd have had time to practice my make up skills more. But I was busy homeschooling my kids, spending quality time with my kids as well as my husband, tending to my garden and trying to keep my business going. So I suppose I was busier than when it's not lockdown!
But these are all really good ideas. I know though that whatever I do, one thing I can't overlook is the need to keep practicing so I need to put the time and effort in.
Thank you so much everyone.
This may require waiting until the craziness has died down more but if there's someone you know who's make up is always on point, why don't you ask them if they can show you or at least pic up some tips? Even if it's someone you don't know very well like a co-worker or neighbor. They'll be flattered to know that you admire their look and might be happy to help you out if you ask. Also you'll be breaking the ice and that's never a bad thing!
It's probably not an option right now but if you have an adult education centre near you, you could enroll there if they offer hair and beauty classes. In any case, I'm sure you might be able to find either online classes or tutorials as the other ladies have suggested.
OK, I know it's aimed at young girls but if you check out the channel Grace's Room on YouTube, she does a tutorial on a natural make up look. It's not too long and she doesn't use like a zillion products. Also she explains everything pretty good. If your an absolute beginner It's a good starting point.
I'm not great when it comes to doing hair or make-up and I've been wearing make-up since I was thirteen! Like you, I've also had my make-up professionally done for special occasions. I've heard that as the cast of EastEnders are now filming again, they're having to do their own hair and make-up. All I can say is thank goodness I'm not in EastEnders or I'd look a right mess in front of the camera!
I keep my look very simple: just foundation, concealer, blusher and lip gloss. Sometimes I like to go wild and add some eyeliner too! Haha! It's very simple but at least I look presentable - and a lot less tired!
Like you, I'm still learning and would love to experiment with different looks. If you have the time and the patience to learn, you could always do so via YouTube tutorials. If you're lucky enough to know a make-up artist or even someone who's make-up always looks flawless and expertly done, you could always ask them for some tips and to show you some techniques.
